Police: Suspect named 'Chicken' accused of shooting man, dog
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) - Spartanburg police have identified the man they say shot someone five times then shot his dog near Duncan Park early Monday.
Dispatch said the shooting was reported at 1 a.m. along the 80 block of West Park Drive in Spartanburg.
Forensics investigators were still on the scene at the Duncan Park apartments at 5 a.m.
According to the incident report, two men stopped by the victim's apartment and got into an argument over his cell phone. The men shot the victim at least four times in the chest and stomach then fled the scene, according to the report.
According to the report, the victim knew one of the men by name and the other only as "Chicken."
On Tuesday, police said they signed arrest warrants for the arrest of Matthew Devon "Chicken" Peak IV, who is accused of shooting the victim five times and shooting his dog.
Peak was arrested and faced a judge on Tuesday night on the charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and ill treatment toward animals.
He was given a $40,000 bond and must wear an ankle monitor if released.
The victim's condition has not been released.
