DEPUTIES RAISE OVER $7000 TO BENEFIT HONOR FLIGHT
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Nearly 150 motorcycle riders donated more than $7,000 during the fourth annual motorcycle benefit ride that the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department conducted on Saturday, June 14 to benefit Honor Flight South Carolina.
Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty said Sgt. David Amick, who supervises the Chapin Patrol District, coordinated the motorcycle benefit ride. The event featured 139 motorcycle riders riding in areas near Lake Murray.
Honor Flight provides airline and ground transportation for World War II military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C., McCarty said. Amick previously served in the U.S. Navy.
“As a military veteran, David recognizes the importance of honoring persons who have defended America’s freedoms in military combat,” McCarty said. “Honor Flight South Carolina enables military veterans who are living on fixed incomes to visit memorials that our nation constructed in order to recognize the sacrifices that have been made by men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces.”
