NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Law enforcement officials in Newberry County are seeking 45 suspects in a major drug operation involving meth, cocaine, and heroin that began Thursday morning.

Sheriff Lee Foster says more than 100 warrants were obtained by various law enforcement agencies across the state and county.
Foster noted that many of the suspects they're looking to apprehend are repeat offenders.

According to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office, a concurrent operation was taking place to combat the battle against meth. In that operation, 20 people were arrested and charged with Attempting to Possess a Controlled Substance for attempting to illegally obtain Sudafed to make meth. Another fact that their investigation uncovered was the resurgence of heroin.

"We as a society have created an environment where we do not diligently deal with the use and sale of illegal drugs," said Foster. "We label it a victimless crime, I challenge you to try to make a burglary victim feel safe in their own home again, go through a neighborhood where gunshots ring out at night, or try console the parents of drug addicted parents; you tell those people that drugs are a victimless crime."

Foster also noted that there has been a resurgence of heroin use in the county.
