COLUMBIA, SC - Police Chief William H. Holbrook is issuing a public safety notification regarding two men who posed as SCE&G workers and stole valuables from an elderly couple.

The victims tell CPD that two men came to their Johnson Avenue residence on April 16, 2014 and stated they needed to check the ‘wall sockets.’

One of the residents allowed the men to enter the home.

Once inside, a suspect is accused of preoccupying one of the victims while the other suspect allegedly stole several of the couple’s items including a purse and wedding rings.

The incident was reported on April 20, 2014.

The couple was not harmed during the incident.

The suspects are described as white males with blond hair with ‘reddish’ skin tone as if they were sunburned, and also smelled of alcohol.

They were last seen wearing jeans with a white T-shirt and tennis shoes.

The pair did not have on SCE&G clothing, nor did the men show proper business identification.

The suspects possibly left the scene in a white, short bed Dodge pickup truck.

According to the SCE&G website, field employees are identified by their blue SCE&G uniforms, a white company ID badge with a photo and marked SCE&G truck.
