TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR BREAKING INTO A STORAGE BUILDING
Monday, March 24, 2014

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a 41-year-old Batesburg man and his 68-year-old father, who also lives in Batesburg, on charges that the two men broke into a storage building off Peachland Road near Gilbert on Thursday, March 20 and stole four metal pig feeders, one motorized land tiller, one steel tractor bumper and one commercial dishwasher.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Darryl Jerome Hill, 43, of 425 Howard Street, Batesburg, and Jerry Myer Hill, 68, of 649 South Lee Street, Batesburg, on arrest warrants on a charge of third-degree burglary. Darryl Hill and Jerry Hill, who is the father of Darryl Hill, each were released from the Lexington County Detention Center on Friday, March 21 after Darryl Hill and Jerry Hill each posted a $15,000 bond.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 1 p.m. on Thursday Darryl Hill and Jerry Hill unlawfully entered a storage building in woods across the street from a home on Peachland Road, Metts said. The Hills stole four metal pig feeders, one motorized land tiller, one steel front bumper for a farm tractor, one metal Hobart commercial dishwasher and two stainless steel items worth a combined total of about $750. The items that the Hills stole were stored at the storage building.

At about 12:56 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a call for help from the property owner concerning suspicious activity near his storage building off Peachland Road, Metts said. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a black-and-gray 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was driving on a driveway that leads from the storage building to Peachland Road. The Hills were riding in the pickup truck.

Deputies found the commercial dishwasher, motorized land tiller and front bumper for a farm tractor that had been stolen from the storage building in the cargo bed of the pickup truck, Metts said. Deputies arrested Darryl Hill and Jerry Hill on charges that they stole the items from the storage building off Peachland Road.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Darryl Hill or Jerry Hill to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
