Mother of Hit and Run Victim Begging for Help
Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Columbia, SC (WLTX)- It was September 16, 2012, a day that changed the Bires family forever. "We had to live day and night not knowing if she was going to make it. There are so many things that went wrong," said Susan Bires, Lindsay's mother. Lindsay Bires was hit by a car while standing on the sidewalk outside of the Palmetto Health Hospital, where she worked as a nurse. Witnesses say a small white car hit her. "She was nearly dead and she has life changing injuries. Her life is going to be hard for her," said Susan. Since the accident Lindsay's mom says she has had over a dozen surgeries and is working to become independent again. Columbia Police say they don't have any leads and haven't made any arrests in the case. Susan says they have upped the reward to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest, and has hired a private investigator. "Time is not good. The sooner you solve the crime the better you are. Right now we are over a year into this and it's not going to be easy," said Kyle Taylor, the private investigator hired by Bires. Susan says the road to recovery hasn't been easy on their family but she is holding out hope. "I can't say i'm angry anymore, just really sad. It is hard to live through something like this," said Susan.
