Thursday, February 6, 2014

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott was joined by members of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Safety Unit and community leaders, during a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony today; at the new Richland County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Safety Unit Office.

The Traffic Safety Unit office is now located at 204 Eascott Place, Columbia SC 29229 (on The Village Green in Lake Carolina). Sheriff Leon Lott announced the partnership with Lake Carolina and held the ribbon cutting for the new home of the Unit; which is comprised of eleven full-time deputies.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that these deputies perform various tasks, ranging from enforcement efforts to educational programs. The Sheriff added that it is the mission of the unit to improve roadway safety within Richland County by positively altering driver behavior; improving the quality of life in ALL communities throughout Richland County.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that while the Traffic Safety Unit deputies issue citations, to include written and verbal warnings, they also attend community meetings, conduct school safety presentations and other educational seminars to increase citizen awareness and knowledge of traffic safety and laws. The Sheriff wants all drivers, young and old, to be aware that preventing traffic accidents and fatalities is everyone’s responsibility.
