Two Dead in Wrong Way Collision on I-77

Fairfield County, SC (WLTX) - Two people are dead after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 77 Thursday morning.

The collision took place around 2:35 a.m. on an area of I-77 about five miles east of Winnsboro.

According to the highway patrol, a Hyundai was traveling south on the road while a Mitsubishi was traveling north in the southbound lanes, and the two vehicles collided.

The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene.

Two passengers in the Hyundai were taken to Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

The collision remains under investigation.
