SCRAPPIN’ WITH THE LAW
Wednesday, January 29, 2014

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - In four weeks, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will sponsor a Scrappin’ with the Law scrap-booking fund-raiser for Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post #106 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 at the agency’s Training Center, 541 Gibson Road, Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts encourages citizens to participate in the scrap-booking fund-raiser. All proceeds will benefit the Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post. A total of 100 people will be able to participate in the event.

Citizens must register for the annual scrap-booking fund-raiser by Thursday, February 13, Metts said. Citizens can register for the event by contacting Sheriff’s Department Special Projects Coordinator Sandy Paavel at her office at (803) 785-2535 or via email at spaavel@lcsd.sc.gov. The cost is $40 per person, which includes lunch, dinner, goodie bags and door prizes. Checks to register for the event should be made payable to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation. The event will include a silent auction and scrapbook yard sale.

Proceeds from the scrap-booking fund raiser will help Explorer Post cadets participate in statewide law enforcement explorer competitions as well as pay for equipment and training, Metts said. The Explorer Post has served as an excellent recruitment tool for the Sheriff’s Department.

Over the years, Metts has appointed many former Explorer Post cadets to work as full-time deputies with the Sheriff’s Department. The program provides good training and personal development for teen-agers and young adults who are interested in careers in law enforcement.

Metts encourages teen-agers and young adults who are interested in careers in law enforcement to join the Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post. To be eligible, you must be between the ages of 14 and 20, with a clean criminal record. You must be enrolled in school and maintain a “C” grade average.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
