Missing Shaw AFB captain spotted in Georgia, now considered deserter
SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC (WIS) - Air Force officials, in coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, continue to ask for public assistance in locating Capt. Robby Williams III.
Williams, who resides in the greater Columbia metro area, was last seen in Waco, Georgia driving his 2013 Black Jeep Wrangler, S.C. license plate ITC701.
He is now considered a deserter.
Hotel, motel and gas station managers should immediately contact local law enforcement officials if he is seen. Additionally, interstate travelers may use smartphones to contact Air Force Office of Special Investigations' officials by texting "AFOSI" and their tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
AFOSI officials assumed the investigation from U.S. Air Forces Central Command when Williams' status changed from "missing" to being placed into a "deserter" status. AFOSI officials believe Williams has actively been eluding authorities involved in his search for unknown reasons. AFOSI officials also believe he has rented hotel and motel rooms in multiple locations, including S.C., N.C., and Chattanooga, Tenn.
Williams was last seen at Shaw AFB, S.C., Dec. 18 and failed to report to duty there Dec. 23.
"We're all trying to find Robby now," said Brig. Gen. Scott Dennis, the U.S. Air Forces Central Command Assistant Commanding Deputy. "Robby is a member of our team and a part of the Air Force family. We'd like the community's help in reporting any tips they may have to the local authorities."
Williams is a light-skinned African American, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. He has light-colored eyes and brown hair and he is 30 years of age. He may be using an alias "Robby Lawton."
AFOSI believes Williams is not armed or dangerous at this time.
