3-6" of snow expected for parts of Midlands
Monday, January 27, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Get ready for wintry precipitation starting Tuesday afternoon and continuing into Wednesday morning.

Most locations in the Midlands could see a total of 3 to 6 inches of snow, with higher accumulations certainly possible south and east of Columbia. There is also a good possibility of a dangerous accumulation of ice.

We continue to watch the development of a storm system off the coast of South Carolina tomorrow into Wednesday. Snow, sleet and freezing rain will be developing Tuesday afternoon after 4:00 p.m., with areas of freezing rain and sleet south of Columbia.

From Columbia north, light snow will develop and become heavier by evening. Look for periods of snow through Wednesday morning. The storm system will move out of the area by Wednesday afternoon.

This storm has the potential to create tremendous issues on the roads and widespread power outages.

Here is our current thinking on snowfall amounts:

Northern Midlands: 3-6"

Central Midlands: 3-6" (A quarter inch of ice could also accumulate)

Eastern Midlands: 3-6" (A half inch of ice could also accumulate)
