SPRINGDALE POLICE ASKING FOR THE COMMUNITIES HELP IN IDENTIFYING A SEXUAL ASSAULT SUSPECT THAT IMPERSONATED A POLICE OFFICER
Tuesday, November 12, 2013

SPRINGDALE, SC - Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett is asking for the community’s help in identifying a sexual assault suspect who impersonated a police officer.

On Tuesday October 22, 2013 at approximately 8:30 pm a man stopped a woman on the side of the road at the 1000 block of Wattling Rd using a small blue light on his dash board. The suspect approached the vehicle and advised the victim that her tag lamp was out. The suspect then used the traffic stop as a ruse to get the victim out of the vehicle. The suspect then began to physically assault the victim with his fists. The suspect then forced the victim into the edge of the wood line where he sexually assaulted her. The suspect then got into his vehicle and pulled onto Wattling Rd and drove toward Augusta Rd.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his early twenties to mid-thirties in age, with light brown or red hair, with light colored eyebrows and no facial hair. The suspect was wearing a black t-shirt with “POLICE” written on the front, a black windbreaker style jacket (similar to a law enforcement style) with no patches, khaki pants, black low quarter police style shoes/boots and a box style holster similar to a radio holster or possibly a large cell phone holster (not a gun holster). The suspect’s vehicle is a small four door compact car that appears to be newer and a small blue light on the dashboard. The vehicle is believed to be dark in color, possibly black.

Investigators with Springdale Police Department and SLED are working together to investigate the incident.
