LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - In two weeks, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department resident deputies and code enforcement officers will begin accepting donations on Monday, December 2 of new or lightly used winter coats, gloves and hats for Lexington County children who are in need of assistance.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said donations of winter coats, gloves and hats for the fourth annual Coats for Kids drive will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, December 16. Coats, gloves and hats will be provided to Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS).

The Sheriff’s Department will deliver donated winter coats, gloves and hats at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18 to LICS, 216 Harmon Street, Lexington, Metts said. LICS will distribute the coats, gloves and hats to children.

Three Fountains Resident Deputy Stacey Gadson is coordinating Coats for Kids, Metts said. Citizens who have questions concerning Coats for Kids can contact Gadson on his voicemail at (803) 785-0801 or via e-mail at sgadson@lcsd.sc.gov.

New or lightly used coats, gloves and hats can donated at the following locations:

* Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington

* North Region Service Center, 111 Lincreek Drive, Columbia

* South Region Service Center, 102 Airport Road, Pelion

* West Region Patrol District Headquarters, 4079-B Augusta Highway, Gilbert

* Tri-City Leisure Center, 485 Brooks Avenue, West Columbia

* Seven Oaks Park, 200 Leisure Lane, Columbia

* Crooked Creek Park, 1098 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin


Coats for Kids reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
