Suspect Arrested for making bomb threats
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Michael Smith (DOB 09/28/1982) for making bomb threats toward his ex-employer.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that on September 28, 2013 Deputies and the Columbia Fire Department responded to 9370 Windsor Lake Boulevard to a report of a bomb threat. The Sheriff stated that no such device was found and investigators immediately identified Smith as the suspect; and began trying to locate him. Sheriff Leon Lott added that Smith had been counseled for poor work performance on September 27, 2013 and made threatening comments to a co-worker that same day. The Sheriff stated that on October 28 that information was provided to the Sheriff’s Department and on October 1, 2013 Smith was arrested without incident.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that any threat to a citizen, business, school or community will be taken seriously and investigated. The Sheriff stated that his passion is to make sure that anyone who is victimized knows that they will be treated with compassion and professionalism and the criminal responsible for targeting them will be pursued and arrested. Sheriff Leon Lott added that the Department stands ready to assist ALL citizens in preventing crime, in understanding the services the Department has to offer and in capturing those responsible for victimizing our citizens.
