Fund Set Up for USC Student Shot in Five Points
Thursday, October 17, 2013

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A fund has been set up to financially help the USC student shot in Columbia's Five Points last weekend.

Martha Childress, 18, was shot by a suspect around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The girl's uncle, Jim Carpenter, says she was waiting for a cab.

Carpenter told News 19 that she suffered a spinal injury. He said Wednesday, though, that she is showing some signs of improvement, and was able to pull herself up and sit up in bed.

Childress will continue to receive treatment here in Columbia. She'll eventually be moved to a facility in Atlanta to receive treatment on her spine.

The fund that's been set up through BB&T bank will go toward medical care and other expenses insurance won't cover.

If you'd like to help, you can donate to the following address:

Martha Childress Trust Fund LLC

PO box 25653 Greenville, SC 29616
