Sheriff continues to keep citizens informed‏
Saturday, August 3, 2013

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Sheriff Leon Lott began offering OffenderWatch® to citizens in 2006 for the purposes of allowing citizens the opportunity to stay more in tune with where sex offenders are living in our communities.

The Sheriff knows that an informed community is a safer community and wants all citizens to stay connected. The Sheriff offers a multitude of FREE technology, through our website www.rcsd.net, which allows citizens to receive information from and communicate with us; from your smart phone, computer or anyway that you chose to. The opportunities range from text alerts, telephone alerts, and email alerts to general safety information.

Sheriff Leon Lott is providing a reminder to citizens to stay connected, with what is going on in our communities, by not only providing the links on the website to get registered for alerts but also by handing out registration cards to citizens who don’t have access to computers. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Deputies will be reminding citizens and handing out these cards at community meetings; and those citizens who don’t have access to computers can return the cards to the Department so that you can be added to the data base. Sheriff Leon Lott added that you can go to www.rcsd.net and sign up online for the alerts.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that OffenderWatch® is a registered sex offender management and community notification tool, with hundreds of agencies utilizing it. Richland County deputies utilize OffenderWatch® to manage and monitor the whereabouts and conduct compliance checks of the registered offenders within Richland County. OffenderWatch® provides the most accurate and timely information that is available to you! Sheriff Leon Lott states that OffenderWatch® is updated instantaneously throughout the day as offender addresses and other offender information is updated in our office. You may enter any address in the County and see real-time information on the publishable offenders within the specified radius of the address you enter.

Sheriff Leon Lott advises that offenders move frequently, so instead of having to check the maps on a weekly basis, the best way to stay informed is to take advantage of our free email alert system. You may register as many addresses in the County as you wish. We will continuously monitor the addresses and send you an email alert if a new offender registers an address within the specified radius of any address you register. An added feature of OffenderWatch® is that you can track specific individuals. Each time they register, you will get an email alert.

Sheriff Leon Lott adds that there is NO COST for this service and no limit to the number of addresses you can register or the number of individuals you can track. Your email address and physical addresses are all confidential. Tell your friends and neighbors, and be sure to register your home, school, work, gym, day care, park, soccer field, parents’ or children's homes - any address of interest to you!

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
