Orangeburg Sheriff Sending Out Scam Alert
Saturday, August 3, 2013

Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) -- The Orangeburg County Sheriff's office is sending out a warning to residents to be on the lookout for a scam that has victimized several people in the county.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says their investigation has determined that an individual is calling from Kingston, Jamaica and telling the victim that he has won a vehicle from Publisher's Clearing House. The caller says to claim the vehicle all the victim has to do is send a gift card.

Ravenell says this is a fraud and that the Publisher's Clearing House does not operate this way. He says if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is a scam.

He is advising residents to never send gift cards or wire money to unknown persons under any circumstances
