INDECENT EXPOSURE INVESTIGATION
Thursday, August 22, 2013

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies are investigating an incident in which it appears that a man tried to expose his private parts and made sexually suggestive motions while speaking to several female students who had left the campus of Irmo Middle School at 6051 Westcott Road near Irmo at about 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20. The incident was reported by a Sheriff’s Department school crossing guard who was working at the school.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies on Wednesday, August 21 released a composite sketch that a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division forensic artist prepared of the male suspect in the indecent exposure incident. The man was 6-foot and was between the ages of 20 and 30. The man had a thin build and dark hair. The man was wearing blue jeans, a white shirt that fit the man loosely and a blue-and-white baseball cap.

Deputies are pursuing leads concerning the man’s identity, Metts said.

The school crossing guard told a deputy who works full-time as a school resource officer at Irmo Middle School that at about 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday several parents reported that they saw the man standing at a fence on the perimeter of Irmo Middle School, with his shirt open and making inappropriate comments to several female students as they walked towards Quail Valley Plaza Shopping Center on Wescott Road, Metts said. Several female students told the school crossing guard that the man was trying to expose his private parts and appeared to be inappropriately touching his private parts.

The school crossing guard saw the man inappropriately touch himself as the man leaned against the perimeter fence outside Irmo Middle School, Metts said. The fence is adjacent to Quail Valley Plaza Shopping Center.

The school crossing guard told the school resource officer that the man had his shirt exposed to the navel on his abdomen and said that the zipper on the man’s blue jeans appeared to be unzipped, Metts said.

Metts asked anyone with information about the indecent exposure incident or the man who was involved in the incident to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
