Copper thief, cousin and girlfriend arrested after 911 call is placed of burglary in progress

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the arrest of Gregory Skinner (DOB: 04/26/1980) for obtaining non ferrous metals unlawfully, Danny Skinner (DOB 12-16-86) for obtaining non ferrous metals unlawfully and Melea Walker (DOB 7-13-68) for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that on Thursday August 22, 2013, at approximately 12:30 PM, deputies received a 911 call of a burglary in progress at Horrell Hill Baptist Church in Hopkins (29061). Sheriff Leon Lott stated that when deputies arrived Gregory Skinner and Danny Skinner fled on foot into the woods and Melea Walker attempted to flee in a stolen pickup truck. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that responding deputies arrested all three suspects and determined that they had also stolen an ac unit from 1036 Horrell Hill Road -- parts of that ac unit were found in the stolen pick up truck.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Gregory Skinner, Danny Skinner and Melea Walker were all booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Additional details on charges:

  • Gregory Wayne Skinner – also charged with Burglary 1st, Grand Larceny, Malicious Injury to Real Property (connected with numerous incidents cited in attached release) and also wanted in Calhoun County for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
  • Danny Ray Skinner – also wanted out of Coryell, Texas on Controlled Substance Violation and Fugitive from Justice Warrant

Sheriff Leon Lott would like to commend the outstanding citizens of Richland County for being vigilant and being involved in their communities. The Sheriff also commends the responding deputies for their quick response and actions in capturing the trio.
