SLED: Woman Took $144,000 from Treasurer's Office
Wednesday, July 3, 2013

Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) - State Law Enforcement Division agents have arrested a woman they say stole money from the Orangeburg County Treasurer's office. Vickie L. Haynes, 41, is charged with one count of embezzlement of public funds, value $100 or more. Haynes was an employee of the treasurer's office, and agents say she was responsible for receiving official payments to that office. An affidavit states that between April 2 of 2012 and January 14 of 2013, Haynes stole funds from the county. The warrant goes on to say that she then wrote checks from personal bank accounts and cashed them at the county treasurer office to cover the amount she had stolen. The affidavit says she deposited a total of $144,725 into her accounts. The document says her salary was $23,507.
