CPD: 4-year-old watching TV hit by stray bullet
Tuesday, July 9, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Bullet shell casings litter the area around Colony Apartments after a 4-year-old girl was wounded in the crossfire between two rival groups around 8 p.m., according to Columbia Police.

CPD arrived at the scene shortly after the shots were fired and discovered the child was wounded while she was watching television.

Investigators say a group of suspects exchanged gunfire with a silver Dodge Charger.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Police spokesperson Jennifer Timmons called the incident a "disgusting crime."

"If these two groups had some sort of beef with each other, the people inside were arguing. If they had some kind of disagreement, they just shot an innocent child," said Timmons.

As for the little girl, CPD says she is out of surgery and currently in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.

Police are currently looking for the Dodge Charger.
