2013 Hot Summer, Cool Books Summer Reading Celebration
Monday, July 22, 2013

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Swansea, SC – Lexington School District Four, which includes Gaston and Swansea, and the Lexington Four Community Literacy Partners, will host its 2nd Annual Hot Summer, Cool Books Reading Celebration on Tuesday, July 23 from 5pm-7pm.

The celebration is a part of the district’s efforts to combat “Summer Reading Loss”, also known as the “Summer Slide”. The district, with support from Central Carolina Community Foundation and the State Department of Education, provided grades K-8 students with books of their choice to keep and read over the summer.

This year’s celebration will include various reading activities, games, food, and special guests, including former University of South Carolina football and retired NFL standout Langston Moore and a few of his teammates. The event is designed to encourage summer reading and celebrate summer reading successes of the students in Lexington District Four, specifically students in grades K-8.

Lexington School District Four has 4 Literacy Coaches who have responsibilities of creating cultures of literacy and ensuring literacy success among its students, contributing to a learning environment which ensures student performance at the highest level.
