Search warrants executed against Magic Minutes owner
Friday, May 3, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - State and federal investigators have issued a search warrant at the home of the owner of Magic Minutes, the sweepstakes machine company that became the center of the video poker debate in the Palmetto State last year.

Agents from the FBI, the IRS, and the State Law Enforcement Division executed the warrant against L.W. Flynn's Spring Valley home late Wednesday morning.

Federal agents collected evidence from the Eastbranch Road home. They also searched several cars at the residence.

Flynn arrived at the scene about an hour after agents first knocked on door. He had no idea what the warrants were about when he got to the scene.

Flynn was recently arrested and charged with possession and operation of gambling machines in Spartanburg County.

Flynn's machines were the subject of numerous WIS investigations across South Carolina.

Flynn founded the company with his wife, Kathy. Flynn is a former 5th Solicitor's Circuit investigator under former solicitor Barney Giese, and Mrs. Flynn is a former Richland County K-9 officer under Sheriff Leon Lott. He was also a candidate for sheriff in Kershaw County.

The machines were eventually declared illegal by Gov. Nikki Haley after the state legislature closed a loophole that allowed them to operate and skirt statutes.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.
