THREE DEPUTIES RECOGNIZED FOR MAKING DUI ARRESTS

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety recognized three Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies as DUI Enforcement Heroes for the number of motorists that the three deputies arrested in 2012 on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the state Department of Public Safety recognized Deputy Keith Sprinkle, 26, of West Columbia, as a DUI Enforcement Silver Hero for arresting between 25 motorists and 49 motorists on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in 2012. On September 7, 2010, Metts appointed Sprinkle to serve as a deputy.

The Department of Public Safety recognized Deputy Thomas Fine, 46, of Lexington, as a DUI Enforcement Bronze Hero for arresting between 10 motorists and 24 motorists on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in 2012, Metts said. On January 4, 2011, Metts appointed Fine to serve as a deputy.

The Department of Public Safety also recognized Deputy Clifford Dean Smith, 41, of Lexington, as a DUI Enforcement Bronze Hero for arresting between 10 motorists and 24 motorists on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in 2012, Metts said. On July 19, 1999, Metts appointed Smith to serve as a deputy.

Fine, Smith and Sprinkle each are assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Traffic Division, Metts said. The Department of Public Safety also recognized the Sheriff’s Department for participating fully in the 2012 Department of Public Safety DUI Enforcement Challenge.
