Friday, April 12, 2013

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - The Lexington County Coroner’s Office on Thursday, April 11 determined that a 43-year-old woman died as a result of being shot once in her upper torso on Wednesday, April 10.

Preliminary results of an autopsy that a forensic pathologist performed at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday on the body of the 43-year-old woman show that the woman died within minutes after being shot once in her upper torso, according to the Coroner’s Office. The bullet penetrated one organ inside the woman’s body, resulting in a laceration of the organ.

The Coroner’s Office is working to identify relatives of the 43-year-old woman in order to notify them about the woman’s death. The Coroner’s Office will not identify the 43-year-old woman until her relatives have been notified about her death. The 43-year-old woman did not have a permanent address.

The Coroner’s Office ruled that the 43-year-old woman’s death was a homicide. The Coroner’s Office and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of the 43-year-old woman.
