LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a 21-year-old Gaston man on Thursday, March 7 on charges that the man broke into a home on Stagecoach Road near Gaston and stole clothing, $20 in cash, two video game players and other electronic devices.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Dallas S. Gates, 21, of 142 Stagecoach Road, Gaston, on a charge of second-degree burglary. Gates was being held on Friday, March 8 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

At about 12:07 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a call concerning a burglary that was in the process of being committed at a home on Stagecoach Road, Metts said. A citizen heard the sound that is made when glass is broken, went to the Stagecoach Road home and found Gates exiting the home’s rear door, with stolen items in his hands. Gates ran away from the home when deputies arrived at the residence in order to investigate the burglary.

A K-9 Unit deputy and the officer’s K-9 police dog tracked Gates to electrical power lines near the home that Gates had broken into and arrested Gates without incident, Metts said.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Gates to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
