BOMB DEMOLITION TRAINING
Friday, March 22, 2013

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - The Lexington County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is conducting a three-day class for local law enforcement personnel at the Lexington County Firing Range, near South Congaree.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said that instructors with the FBI and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department Explosive Ordinance Demolition (EOD) team are conducting safety training for local law enforcement personnel on handling explosive devices.

The training is being conducted at the Lexington County Firing Range, located at 357 Landfill Lane, near South Congaree. Citizens in the surrounding area will likely hear explosives being detonated during this training, Metts said. There is no need for alarm or concern. The training will conclude on the evening of Friday, March 22, Metts said.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department Explosive Ordinance Demolition Team was founded in 1975. The Lexington County Sheriff's Department EOD team has averaged about 80 calls per year for concerns related to explosive devices since that time. Lexington County Sheriff's Deputy and EOD team leader, Colonel Mel Seboe, is the longest serving bomb demolition expert in the world, Metts said.
