Police: Two robberies on USC campus now under investigation

COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia Police are now investigating two separate robberies that took place on the University of South Carolina campus Wednesday night and Friday morning.

The first robbery happened around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Sumter Street and Greene Street.

According to police, a male got out of a red, four-door vehicle and approached two females walking along Sumter Street. As he got closer to them, he pointed a weapon and told them to put their wallets on the ground.

The man then picked up the wallets and got into the passenger seat of the car.

The vehicle fled on Sumter Street. The victims were not hurt.

The second robbery occurred around 12:15 a.m. Friday when a red, four-door Camry with a spoiler stopped next to a man walking on Pickens Street.

Investigators say a suspect in the rear seat of the car asked the victim for the time, got out of the car, and pointed a weapon at him.

A second suspect, police say opened the rear door and told the victim to throw his wallet in the car, which he complied.

The suspects fled the area. The victim sustained no injuries in this case as well.

The suspect in the first robbery is described as a black male, standing around 6'2" and wearing a gray hoodie and baggy jeans.

In the second robbery, police describe the first suspect as approximately 5'11" and wearing a hoodie, the second suspect is described as a black male, and a description of the driver was not known.

Police have not said there is any link between these two cases at this time.

The cases are being investigated by the Columbia Police Department.
