4 agencies searching for suspect after 15 mile pursuit
Tuesday, February 5, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Four law enforcement agencies are looking for a person who led police on an approximately 15 mile chase from Irmo to Northeast Columbia.

According to Irmo Police Chief Brian Buck, officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 9:30 a.m. on Lake Murray Boulevard, but the driver did not stop.

Police followed the suspect's black Mitsubishi for several miles on Interstate 26 and Interstate 20 until the vehicle finally stopped on 277 between Farrow Road and Fontaine Road.

The driver then ran across 277 and into the woods.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, between 20 and 30, between 5-7 and 5-8, 180-185 pounds. He is clean shaven, wearing a white shirt with blue stripes and blue jeans.

Police have towed the vehicle from the area. It is unclear if the foot search continues in the area.

Officers from the Irmo Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Department, Columbia Police and the South Carolina Highway Patrol were involved in the search.

Buck said the driver was originally being pulled over for a seatbelt violation.

If you know anything about the whereabouts of the driver, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
