Armed Robbery Update: News Carrier arrested for Filing False Police Report
Saturday, January 12, 2013

Lancaster, SC – On Sunday 01/06/2013 at 04:22 am Lancaster County Deputies were dispatched to 1416 Pageland Hwy (The Speedee Mart) for a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival deputies met with the 45 year old male victim who was there delivering papers. The store was not open at the time. The victim reported that after stocking the paper box he went to the dumpster to dispose of some trash. The victim reported that two black male suspects wearing dark clothing approached him and ordered him to the ground at gun point. The victim reported that the suspects then stole money and his wallet. The suspects then fled the scene in an older model green car. No one was injured during the incident.

At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that the incident did not occur and that Leon Caskey (B/M DOB: 07/19/1967 Address: 422 Gay St. Lancaster, SC) fabricated the story. Caskey has been charged with filing a false police report. Caskey was arrested on Thursday 01/10/2013 after surrendering himself to the Sheriff’s Office. He was jailed at the Detention Center and released the same day on a $5,000 PR bond.

Sheriff Faile said, “It is frustrating when someone chooses to use Law Enforcement for something like this. We took this incident very seriously and wasted a lot of time and energy on this investigation.”
