MAN ARRESTED IN ROBBERY AT TRUCK STOP
Wednesday, December 5, 2012

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department fugitive investigators on Monday, December 3 arrested a 24-year-old Batesburg man who was wanted on arrest warrants in connection with an armed robbery that the man is accused of committing on November 15 at a truck stop on Ben Franklin Road near Leesville.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said investigators arrested Patrick David Lybrand, 24, at about 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Lybrand’s home at 2065 Ox Eye Daisy Lane near Batesburg on arrest warrants on charges of armed robbery and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Lybrand was being held on Tuesday, December 4 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $101,000.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 12 a.m. on November 15 Lybrand entered the Hillview Truck Stop at 2656 Ben Franklin Road while armed with a rifle that is similar to an AK-47 rifle, Metts said. Lybrand pointed the rifle at a clerk at the truck stop while demanding that the clerk provide Lybrand with $61 in cash and five cartons of Newport cigarettes.

After Lybrand left the store, arrest warrants further allege that the truck stop clerk ran after Lybrand, confronted Lybrand outside the truck stop and took the rifle, stolen money and stolen cigarettes from Lybrand, Metts said. The truck stop clerk later positively identified Lybrand as the man who committed the robbery. Lybrand regularly bought items at the truck stop.

Prior to the robbery, Lybrand opened the door to the truck stop and looked inside, with his face uncovered, Metts said. Lybrand then pulled a bandanna over his mouth and nose and entered the store, carrying the rifle under his shirt. Lybrand removed the rifle from his shirt when he committed the robbery.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Lybrand to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
