Police: Arrest made in attempted abduction of 2-year-old girl
Wednesday, November 14, 2012

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - Sumter Police arrested a woman they say attempted to kidnap a 2-year-old girl on Monday night.

Police arrested 41-year-old Wanda Grinnell on Nov. 14, around 11:00 a.m. after officers were dispatched to the A & P Coastal Mart located at 501 Boulevard Road in reference to a suspect of an attempted kidnapping.

The report said the victim's mother identified Grinnell as the woman who attempted to abduct her daughter and informed law enforcement that Grinnell was in fact present at the business.

Sumter Police Department arrested Grinnell and transported her to the Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center where she awaits a bond hearing for the charge of Attempted Kidnapping.

According to police, on Nov. 12, Grinnell tried to grab the girl, who was playing in her yard on Flamingo Road, but the child's mother ran outside to protect her daughter.
