Tuesday, November 20, 2012

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - Sumter Police say an argument at a birthday party Saturday night ended in murder.

Police say 26-year-olds Denver Williams and Chauncey Mack got into an argument during a party at the James Village Apartment Complex on North Main St. at about 7:45 p.m. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, ending when police say Williams pulled a handgun and shot Mack several times.

Mack was taken to the hospital with several gunshot wounds to his chest. He died at the hospital.

Police say Williams fled the scene, but turned himself in to police Sunday afternoon. Williams was taken to the Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center.

According to investigators, Williams and Mack knew each other and the shooting was an isolated incident. They continue to investigate.
