Video Poker Machines Seized In Lexington County
Thursday, October 11, 2012

Columbia, SC (WLTX) The Lexington County Sheriff's Department and SLED seized illegal video gambling devices that were in a convenience store on Tuesday.

Investigators received information on Tuesday that three table-top Pot-O-Gold video poker devices were being operated in a back room at an El Cheapo convenience store at 3862 Highway 321, said Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts.

A hand-written "Employees Only" sign was posted on a door that leads to the room, through a storage area, where the devices were being played. Officers found that persons who won card games that were played on the gambling devices were awarded credits that they exchanged for items at the store.

Sheriff Metts said a Lexington County magistrate on Wednesday, October 10 determined that the three devices each are illegal video gambling devices, which are subject to seizure by law enforcement. Under South Carolina law, a magistrate must determine whether each individual gambling device is illegal.

Anyone with information about illegal video gambling devices to call the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
