Updated: Denmark Tech student stable after shooting
DENMARK, SC - A female student shot on the Denmark Technical College campus Wednesday night is in stable condition, according to President Dr. Joann Boyd-Scotland.
“Even though the immediacy of this terrible incident is behind us, Denmark Technical College continues to cooperate with the authorities,” Boyd-Scotland said. “Our thoughts are with our injured student and her family.
“Additional security is being provided to reassure our students and our employees that their safety is our priority.”
The shooting occurred in a campus parking lot at about 9:50 p.m. Boyd-Scotland said authorities immediately implemented safety protocols and local EMS and law enforcement officials quickly arrived on the scene, cared for the injured student and locked down the facility.
The shooter, who was a visitor on campus, has not been identified by name, but SLED has information they’re looking at, Boyd-Scotland said.
Only one entrance to the campus is left open at night, and that one is manned by a guard, she said. He takes down names, license tags and driver’s license numbers, she said.
The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, along with Denmark Technical College police, Denmark police and the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Department.
