Zinah Jennings found guilty of unlawful neglect of child receives ten years

Columbia, SC – On Friday, September 7th, Zinah Jennings was found guilty by a Richland County jury for unlawful neglect of a child by the custodial parent. She was sentenced to ten (10) years in prison by Judge R. Knox McMahon, which was the maximum sentence that could be handed down for this charge.

Jennings’ seventeen (17) month old son, Amir Jennings, was last seen on November 29, 2011. An exhaustive multi-state search has been made for the child, who is still missing as of this date. Jennings was arrested on December 30, 2011 and has been held in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center since that time.

The trial commenced on August 27, 2012 and testimony was concluded on September 6, 2012. Dozens of prosecution witnesses testified for the State. The jury deliberated approximately four (4) hours before rendering their verdict at mid-day Friday.
