TWO REPORTED ASSAULTS IN FIVE POINTS THIS WEEKEND

COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announces the investigations of two reported assaults in Five Points this weekend.

The first incident occurred shortly before 1 o’clock in the morning at 734 Harden Street on Sunday, September 23, 2012.

The male victim tells CPD that he was with a friend at the incident location and was bumped by two unknown, black males.

There was allegedly a verbal altercation between the men and the victim.

The victim adds that when he tried to walk away from the incident, he was punched by one of the males.

Then, more males joined the group and he was hit in the face several times. He also tells Investigators that he sustained a broken arm.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim was not able to provide more specific descriptions of the suspects.

Second Incident:

The second reported incident occurred at approximately 2 o’clock in the morning at 707 Harden Street on Sunday, September 23, 2012.

The male victim tells CPD that there was a verbal altercation at the incident location.

The victim says that he was shoved and punched by several, unknown black males.

The victim adds that when he was on the ground, he was kicked in his chest and head area, causing lacerations and damage to his mouth/jaw area.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim was not able to provide more specific descriptions of the suspects.

The Columbia Police Department continues to investigate these incidents.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the area.

CPD is also investigating both cases to determine if they are connected.
