COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announces the arrest of a teenager accused of committing several violent crimes including an armed robbery of two pizza delivery employees in the same apartment complex.

Devanta Boyd (1/29/1993) is charged with Attempted Murder, Two (2) Counts of Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Grand Larceny, Criminal Conspiracy and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

The charges stem from the following allegations:

June 30, 2012 – 199 Brook Pines Drive – 5:45 p.m.

Boyd and a juvenile are accused of robbing a pizza delivery employee while at the Brook Pines Apartment complex in June. The men allegedly used guns and demanded that the victim get out of the car. When the victim complied, the suspects stole the car and money. The victim’s car was recovered approximately three blocks away at Regency Park Drive. The juvenile has also been arrested.

July 10, 2012 – 200 Block of Brook Pines Drive – 1:30 p.m.

Boyd and a different juvenile are accused of robbing a pizza delivery employee while at the Brook Pines Apartment complex in July. The victim tells CPD Investigators that the juvenile pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at his forehead to demand the victim’s car keys, money and phone. The suspects allegedly made the victim take the ‘pizza delivery’ sign off the vehicle’s roof. The two suspects then drove away in the victim’s car. The vehicle was recovered approximately three blocks away at Regency Park Drive. The juvenile in this case has also been arrested.

July 13, 2012 – 400 Block of Regency Park Drive – 1:00 a.m.

Boyd is accused of shooting a man in his arm at a home on Regency Park Drive.

While more information is being gathered on the motive, it is believed that an argument with neighbors may have sparked the shooting. The victim tells CPD Investigators that he was opening the door to his residence at the time of the shooting. The victim underwent surgery for his injury and was later treated and released at a local hospital.

The juvenile charged in the July 10, 2012 incident has been arrested in this case as well.

All persons charged/arrested are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
