COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announces the arrest of a man accused of assaulting a woman this afternoon.

Alexander Antwan Jones (DOB: 2-8-1990) is charged with Third Degree Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct.

Jones is accused of forcibly trying to have sexual intercourse with a female behind a house on Tree Street.

The woman tells CPD Investigators that she was walking along Tree Street before the incident.

A man inside of the house heard the female yelling in distress, so he went outside and then witnessed the incident.

Jones is accused of fleeing the scene before being arrested by members of CPD’s Drug Suppression Team (DST) near Forest Drive.

Jones was later transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The female was seen by medical staff at a local hospital.
