LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department on Sunday, August 5 arrested an 18-year-old West Columbia man in connection with vandalizing and attempted larceny of an ATM machine on Platt Springs Road, West Columbia.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Zachary Crolley, 18, of 175 Ramblin Road, West Columbia after he attempted to pry open a First Citizens Bank ATM machine with a crowbar located at 3967 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia. Deputies were dispatched to the ATM machine located on Platt Springs Road after receiving calls from concerned citizens who witnessed Crolley attempting to pry open the machine, Metts said.

Upon arrival, a deputy observed Crolley attempting to break into the ATM machine with the crowbar and also had several other tools in his possession. The deputy placed Crolley under arrest and also discovered seven stolen credit cards in his possession, Metts said. According to a spokesperson for First Citizens Bank, Crolley was only moments away from stealing a substantial amount of money from the ATM machine before his arrest.

Crolley was also heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of the arrest, Metts said. Crolley is being charged with attempted larceny of an ATM machine, malicious injury to private property, and disorderly conduct.
