MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING THREE MOTOR VEHICLES
Friday, August 31, 2012

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives arrested a 31-year-old West Columbia man on charges that the man stole three motor vehicles from outside a business on Corley Mill Road near Lexington and hired a towing service to transport the three vehicles to a Lexington metal recycling company, where the vehicles were sold for scrap metal and crushed.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives on Wednesday, August 29 arrested Saul Edward Saylors, 31, of 1727 Terrace View Drive, West Columbia, on an arrest warrant on a charge of grand larceny involving property worth between $2,000 and $10,000. Saylors was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on Thursday, August 30 after he posted a $5,000 bond.

An arrest warrant alleges that at about 9:55 a.m. on August 23 Saylors began removing a 1986 Ford F-250 pickup truck, 1982 Mercedes 300 sedan and 1977 American Gremlin sedan from outside the Corley Mill Road business, Metts said. Saylors hired a towing service to transport the three vehicles, which had a combined value of $2,750, to CMC Recycling at 2308 Two Notch Road, Lexington, where Saylors sold the three vehicles for a combined total of $924 between 11:24 a.m. and 2:04 p.m. on August 23. Workers at the recycling company crushed the three motor vehicles for scrap metal on August 23.

The thefts of the three motor vehicles were reported to the Sheriff’s Department on August 24, Metts said. Detectives began investigating the incident and later developed sufficient probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Saylors in connection with the vehicle thefts.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Saylors to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
