Bar burglarized two days after owner dies
Friday, August 10, 2012

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary that occurred at a bar two days after the owner passed away.

According to an incident report, officers responded to the Iguana DesNuda bar located at 2544 South Lake Drive in reference to a burglary on August 8.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with some of the employees who stated that when the arrived to work to reopen the bar they noticed a big hole in the back wall, the report stated.

Deputies say once inside the building, they noticed damage to the ATM that was located on the dance floor in the main area of the bar.

Officers observed the machine’s front face plate had been pried open and a stack of money was visible, the report stated.

Deputies say they do not know if any money was taken, but contacted ATM maintenance to confirm the balance.

According to the report, one of the managers called the alarm company and they advised her that the alarm was set off around 1:47 a.m. and the notification is set up to only call law enforcement if the owner was contacted and they wish to send authorities to the location.

Deputies say the owner passed away August 6 at her residence, therefore the alarm company was unable to reach her.

According to staff, the bar had been closed for business since August 6 at 9:30 p.m.
