Victim Defrauded of $2500 she paid for home repairs – Deputies Search for Willie Ray Hayes
Wednesday, July 11, 2012

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott stated that on April 11, 2011, Willie Ray Hayes (DOB 10/28/59) was hired by a 65 year old female victim, in Lower Richland County, to complete construction work to the roof, bathroom and living room of her home.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the victim gave Hayes a series of down payments totaling $2500 dollars. The Sheriff added that Hayes accepted the money knowing good and well he himself was not a licensed contractor. The victim has told Deputies that after the down payments were made, Hayes never returned to complete any of the work and she contacted the Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff stated that investigators have determined that Hayes is not licensed by South Carolina Labor Licensing and Review and is being sought on charges of unlawful practice of a regulated profession and obtaining money under false pretenses.

Sheriff Leon Lott is asking that anyone who knows the location of Hayes to please call, email or text your anonymous tip to Midlands Crimestoppers.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
