LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - In two weeks, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Batesburg-Leesville Police Department will conduct a National Night Out event between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7 at Leesville College Park, 423 College Street, Leesville.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts and Batesburg-Leesville Police Chief Wallace Oswald said the event will include displays by state and local law enforcement agencies, fishing and hunting simulators, free back-to-school haircuts for children, free fingerprint identification cards for children who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, free face painting, free food, drinks and refreshments, one bouncy house and live music.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will set up a static display with a LENCO Bearcat armored vehicle that is used by the agency’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) as well as a static display with a truck that is used by the agency’s Bomb Squad, Metts said.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will set up trailers that will enable participants to simulate fishing and hunting, Oswald said. The Department of Natural Resources also will set up a static display with a law enforcement patrol boat.

Steele Justice will perform live music at the event, Metts and Oswald said. Participants will receive free food, drinks and refreshments.

Back-to-school haircuts will be provided free of charge to children, Metts and Oswald said. Face painting also will be provided free of charge. In addition, fingerprint identification cards will be prepared for children who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Metts and Oswald said the following businesses and groups are sponsoring the National Night Out event: Batesburg-Leesville Chamber of Commerce & Visitor’s Center, Bi-Lo, B&L Rental and Sales, Lacy Schools of Cosmetology, Mitchell Printing & Graphics, Inc., Pizza Hut, Randall’s Produce, Town of Batesburg-Leesville, The Twin-City News, US Foods and Wiz’s Eatery.

The National Night Out event in Batesburg-Leesville reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
