LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - In two weeks, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Chapin Police Department will conduct a National Night Out event between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday, August 6 at Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts and Chapin Police Chief Troy Crump said the event will include law enforcement displays by state and county law enforcement agencies as well as hot-air balloon rides, live music, an obstacle course and crime prevention information.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad, Crime Prevention Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Dive Team, Lake Murray Marine Patrol, Gang Unit and K-9 Unit will conduct law enforcement displays, Metts said. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will set up trailers that will enable participants to simulate fishing and hunting, Crump said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol will set up a driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs obstacle course in which participants will wear eye goggles that impair their vision while they drive a golf cart around the obstacle course.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will set up a static display with the agency’s armored motor vehicle, Crump said. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department will set up static displays with a marked Hummer and marked Dodge Charger patrol car.

REMAX will provide hot-air balloon rides, Metts and Crump said. Villain Entertainment will provide live music during the event.
