Coroner identifies victim in deadly stabbing

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Richland County Coroner has identified a Columbia man who was stabbed to death Tuesday night.

Coroner Gary Watts said 42-year-old Walter Watkins of Connie Drive died of stab wounds to his upper body.

Curtis Wilson from the Richland County Sheriff's Department says deputies responded to Connie Drive shortly before 11:00 Tuesday night and found Watkins unconscious.

Watkins was taken to Palmetto Health Richland where Watts said he died in surgery about an hour later.

Connie Drive is located off Broad River Road near St. Andrews Road.
