Monday, June 4, 2012

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts on Friday, June 1 presented the Sheriff’s Award, which is the highest honor that the sheriff can bestow, to White Knoll Middle School Principal Nancy L. Turner, Ph.D., who will retire as principal effective on June 30.

Metts presented Turner with the Sheriff’s Award in recognition of her strong support of law enforcement while she served as principal at White Knoll Middle School for 18 years.

“Nancy was highly committed to students, faculty and staff at White Knoll Middle School,” Metts said. “Her strong leadership will be greatly missed at White Knoll Middle School.”

Turner has worked as an educator for more than 36 years, Metts said. The South Carolina Association of School Administrators named Turner as the South Carolina Middle-Level Principal of the Year in 2008. Turner received the MetLife National Association of Secondary School Principals State Principal of the Year Award and was recognized as a National Distinguished Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

Turner led efforts by students, parents, faculty and staff at White Knoll Middle School to collect donations to purchase one new fire truck to replace a fire truck that the New York City Fire Department lost in the terrorist attacks in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, Metts said.
