K9 helps track burglary suspects more than 5 miles from crime scene

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - With help from the K9 team, deputies arrested a 19-year-old and a juvenile the say burglarized a home on Old Bluff Road Monday evening.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, shortly before 5:00 p.m., deputies responded to a burglary call at 311 Old Bluff Road.

Once on the scene, officers obtained a description of the suspects through witness reports while the K9 team started on a track.

Deputies say the K9 team picked up a scent that led them to items believed to have been stolen during the burglary.

The K9 team continued on the track and found the two suspects less than six miles from the crime scene at 2201 Old Bluff Road.

Deputies arrested 19-year-old Shaquan Stewart and a juvenile.

Stewart is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on burglary charges.
