Three accused in 39 robberies
Friday, May 25, 2012

ORANGEBURG, SC - Three men have been charged in connection with 39 robberies across the Lowcountry, including a Holly Hill robbery, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

The robberies focused on Asian restaurants, check cashing businesses and loan businesses, mostly occurring in or near Charleston County, but ranging as far as Walterboro, Holly Hill and Georgetown. They occurred between July 2009 and March 2011.

Indicted are 29-year-old Raynard Montel Eady of North Charleston; 33-year-old Christopher Donnell Simmons of Wadmalaw and 29-year-old Winard Montez Eady of North Charleston.

Raynard Eady and Christopher Simmons were arrested as a part of a multi-agency investigation in February 2011 and charged with state offenses, including armed robbery, that are included as part of the federal indictment unsealed Tuesday, Nettles said. Both have remained in custody since that arrest.

Winard Eady was arrested on May 18, 2012.

The federal indictment alleges that the three conspired to commit robbery affecting interstate commerce and used handguns in furtherance of the robberies.
