Sheriff’s Office Arrests Two Suspects in Hit and Run on Robinson Rd.
Thursday, May 24, 2012

Lancaster, SC – On Tuesday 05/22/2012 the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brett Daniel Wright (W/M DOB: 09/18/1993 Address:1174 Chase Madison Dr. Lancaster, SC) and Joshua Neal Barton (W/M DOB:01/04/1993 Address: 1174 Chase Madison Dr. Lancaster, SC) and charged them with Attempted Murder. The charges stem from an investigation which began on May 19th when two victims Brandon Scott Maree and Ricky Christopher Jones were struck by a vehicle on Ruth St. in Lancaster. Although the Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol initially responded, the SCHP began the investigation as a Felony Hit and Run accident. On 05/22/2012 the Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding the possible location of vehicle involved in the incident. Sheriff’s Office Investigators and Troopers followed the tip and were able to locate the vehicle involved in the incident.

Investigators and Troopers then began locating witnesses and developing suspects. During the course of the investigation it was then determined that the incident was in fact not an accident but an intentional assault on Mr. Jones and Mr. Maree. At that point the Sheriff’s Office assumed control of the investigation and have arrested Barton and Wright. The investigation thus far shows that there was some type of incident involving unlawful drugs at Barton and Wright’s home. Barton and Wright left the home with the intention to assault the other parties involved in the incident at the home. Barton and Wright located Maree and Jones walking on Ruth St. and intentionally struck them with the car. At this time it is not known whether Jones and Maree were involved in the incident at the home.

Barton and Wright are currently incarcerated awaiting a bond hearing.

Sheriff Faile said, “We are thankful that the Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol were able to work together so well to bring this incident to a close. This incident is a prime example of how a concerned and involved citizen working with Law Enforcement can make all the difference in a criminal investigation.”
